Fundamental in shot peeneing

The Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) and the National Institute of Aviation Technology (NIAT) will be sponsoring a three-day seminar "Fundamentals of Shot Peening".

This seminar has been developed in co-operation with ISPC Wheelabrator Canada and Canadian Specialty Equipment. Wheelabrator is the world's largest shot blasting and peening equipment manufacturer.

The seminar will be held at Hall of TsAGI Sientists, November 9,10, and 11 2004. With the financial support of the various sponsors, there will be no charge to the participants. As this is a recognized course, there will be a Certificate issued to each participant.

This internationally presented three-day seminar aims to provide essential knowledge and techniques in the Shot Peening process. The latest technology used in North America will be discussed and explained. This seminar will be of interest to not only scientists, engineers and other specialists in field, but also senior officials of manufacturing and repair facilities.

Seminar topics:

  • Definition and benefits of shot peening.
  • How peening works and how it increases part life.
  • Definition of stress, including distinction between tension and compression.
  • Definition and explanation of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) failure.
  • How peening increases resistance to fatigue and corrosion failures.
  • Compression zone beyond dimple size.
  • Peening intensity and Almen strips.
  • Measuring intensity - generation and interpretation of saturation curves.
  • Peening parameters: things that affect peening intensity.
  • Specification and standard practices.

Official languages of the Seminar will be English and Russian. The Seminar will be a lecture format with time allocated for questions and discussion.
