General description

T-101 is a subsonic continuous-operation, closed-layout wind tunnel with two reverse channels and an open test section. Two fans of total power 30 MW generate the flow. The wind tunnel is equipped with a six-component electric-mechanical balance and a system for test object remote control. Computerized measurement-and-control complex enables data registration, acquisition, and processing.

The following types of tests can be carried out in T-101:

  • determination of aerodynamic characteristics either of full-scale flight vehicles (aircraft, helicopters, etc.) or of their large-scale models;
  • determination of aerodynamic loads on control surfaces with the help of in-model strain-gauge balance;
  • determination of pressure distribution along the surface of flight vehicle or its model with the help of electronic modules (up to 1300 points);
  • investigations of icing influence on the aerodynamic characteristics of flight vehicle and its elements (wing, empennage, etc.) and on the controls efficiency;
  • investigations of the characteristics of parachutes, gliders and delta wings;
  • investigations of industrial objects under exposure to the wind;
  • physical investigations of flight vehicles and other objects or their models at high Reynolds number.

Technological advantages

  • Testing of objects and their models at high Reynolds number;
  • Testing of aircraft, helicopters and their models with actual or simulated engine operations.

Application

During 70 years in T-101 scaled models of aircraft and helicopters, many types of aerospace vehicles and different industrial objects have been tested.
