Research on aerospace subjects undergoing force-landing on water

The experimental study of force-landing on water is carried out using the free-flying, full-scale dynamic models either placing them into operation by a surface-water catapult or through dropping them on the water surface via a towing trolley that is moving at any desired speed. TsAGI’s force-landing-on-water modeling technique includes modeling of live flow around subjects and the modeling of the destruction of any construction accessories. This has been used with great efficiency in many force-landings on water during research on aircraft (L-610, Il-96, Tu-204, Tu-334, Tu-324, An-140, Il-114, S-80, An-74TK300, An-148, SSJ) and helicopters (Mi-8, Mi-38, Ka032, Ansat).
