TsAGI’s Chief Scientific Officer Takes Part in EREA Board Meeting

TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) participated in the Board Meeting of the Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics (EREA). The event was held in Brussels (Belgium) in early December.
The leading center for aviation science was represented by Sergey Chernyshev, Chief Scientific Officer, TsAGI, Academician of the RAS; and by Sofya Blyuger, Director for International Cooperation, TsAGI.
The event included negotiations between the administration of Cittàdella Scienza, an Italian Research Center, and a meeting with EC representatives. The latter defined potential areas for cooperation, including research into supersonic aviation, zero-emission aircraft, urban air mobility, etc.
Sergey Chernyshev was also honored with a CEAS (Council of European Aerospace Societies) Gold Medal Award 2020, the highest European award, for his exceptional role in developing aeronautics, for promoting Russia in EU Framework programs and other areas of EU cooperation related to aircraft R&D.

Gratifyingly, the colleagues have highly estimated our efforts in promoting Russia’s aviation science into European technological space under an equal partnership. Indeed, cooperating with the EU in research and technology clarifies our research priorities, mutually enriches innovative ideas, and increases young researchers’ interest in aviation activities. I was especially gratified to receive the award from the honored foreign colleagues. Our meetings are coming back to the traditional format of personal communication,’ said Sergey Chernyshev.
Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics (EREA) was established in 1999 as a non-commercial organization uniting top European research centers for aeronautics and aircraft. EREA aims to provide research-and-technology aid for aerospace projects, to develop and implement European long-term research strategy, as well as to manage joint initiatives. In EREA, TsAGI’s priority task is to present expert opinions for forming long-term strategies and recommendations. Its membership in EREA enables it to receive promptly the current information on top world technologies and trends of their development. This provides the active implementation of state-of-the-art foreign experience for developing national science and industry.
