How do hurricanes affect people?

In the beginning of June several video recordings for TV channels “Russia” and “Moscow 24” were shot at Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”). The subject of the program was the impact of hurricanes on people and the environment, including residential and industrial facilities.

The reason for creating the videos was the recent squall winds in the Moscow region. TV reporters sought to demonstrate how such weather conditions affect people, architectural and building construction. To do this the journalists visited TsAGI’s subsonic wind tunnel, where tests on industrial aerodynamics are carried out. The video shooting took place in a working wind tunnel, which created air flow speeds of up to 30 m/s. Hence, the audience was able to see how people might feel in extreme wind conditions.
