9.08.2011TsAGI completes testing of fuselage model tail propeller
The aim of the tests is to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of the fuselage with a thrust propeller in the tail. The model was tested in the TsAGI low-speed wind tunnel Ò-102. During the work, the air velocity was varied, as was the angle of attack and the slip angle of the model. At various propulsion settings, the unit measured aerodynamic forces and moments acting on the model and the propeller. As a result of the tests, scientists have identified the presence of positive aerodynamic interference, which manifests itself as a drop in the required power of the shaft which drives the propeller to create thrust, compensating for the resistance of the rotating body, located in front of the propeller. Thanks to a reduction in the required propulsion capacity, fuel consumption by the aircraft may be reduced by TsAGI Press Service
