14.07.2010Tragic death of Guennadiy Pavlovets
In 1962 after graduating MIPT, G.A. Pavlovets began his work in TsAGI in the department of aircraft and rocket aerodynamics. Although a young specialist he proved himself a good researcher. In 1967, he finished his postgraduate course, received a Candidate of Physics and Mathematics and was appointed Deputy Head of the aircraft and rocket aerodynamics department at TsAGI. In 1985, G. Pavlovets defended his Ph.D. thesis. During his work in TsAGI, he held posts of Deputy Head of the aircraft and rocket aerodynamics department, Head of the Department and Deputy Director of the Institute. The scientific activity of G. Pavlovets is best characterized by great efficiency. He published more than 60 scientific papers, contributed in national and international research conferences and workshops on aerodynamics and the progress of civil aviation. For many years he headed up TsAGI’s seminar on aerodynamic design and school-seminar on aircraft aerodynamics. He was also a member of the Institute Research Board. G. Pavlovets fostered a new generation of young scientists. He was a supervisor and mentor of students, seven of whom received the Ph. D. and ten received the Candidate degree. His most notable success came in comprehensive applied research on the development of new generation passenger and cargo aircraft (An-124, Àn-225, Àn-70, Àn-140, Il-96-300, Il-114, Òu-204, Òu-334, Òu-324, etc.). In 1996, G. Pavlovets was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine and in 2000 he received the RAS Prize named after A.N. Tupolev. G. Pavlovets made significant contributions to the progress of national aviation and his activity was highly appreciated by the Government of the Russian Federation: he was decorated with the "Sign of Honor of Aircraft Transport," as well as with various medals and orders. During the years of conversion G. Pavlovets was always at the forefront of events. The major part of his proposals to upgrade the Institute was implemented, which facilitated TsAGI becoming a leading research center in the Russian Federation. As a private person, G. Pavlovets was well known for his amicability, attention and goodwill. He was active in society and was always open to give assistance and support not only to his friends, but also to those who needed it. He was a wonderful family man. The happy and fond memory of a prominent scientist and good man, Gennadiy Pavlovets, will be kept forever. The farewell ceremony will take place in the Palace of Culture on 16.07.2010 at 10.00 AM in Zhukovsky. TsAGI Press Service
