TsAGI to research noise-level reduction of long-haul aircraft

TsAGI researchers are examining noise-level reduction in long-haul aircraft. The acoustical characteristics of this class of aircraft need to meet and exceed significantly the ICAO 2006 Standards.

Specifically, TsAGI will study new aerodynamic aircraft configurations and integrated propulsion with the intent of shielding the engine noise radiation by airframe structures. Aircraft configurations of this type are under extensive research within the FP7 in Europe and within the Federal Aerospace Exploration Program in the USA.

The calculations carried out by TsAGI scientists made it evident that engine-noise acoustic shielding efficiency in conventional aerodynamic construction is 11-12 EPN dB, and that one of the BWB aerodynamic configuration is up to 30 EPN dB as referenced by three measuring points on the ground. The data obtained meet the requirements specified by ACARE for 2020.
