Tupolev Prize is awarded to the creators of Be-200 amphibian aircraft

Under the Order of the Presidium of the RAS the "Tupolev Prize-2009″ was awarded to: V.P. Sokolyansky, Head of the Moscow Complex of FSUE TsAGI n. a. prof. N.E. Zhukovsky; to V.A. Kobzev, Director General of TANTK n. a G.M. Beriev JSC; and to G.S. Panatov, Head of the Aircraft Department of Taganrog Technology Institute of the South Federal University, Head of "Taganrog" Affiliate of MAI aircraft engineering department, for creating the Be-200 multipurpose amphibian aircraft.

The Be-200 aircraft was developed by the Taganrog Aeronautical Scientific and Technological Complex with the active participation of specialists of the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute. The aircraft possesses a unique combination of aerodynamic, hydrodynamic and seaworthiness qualities. These achievements are the result of thorough research and debugging the overall aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, as well as exhaustive experimental and computational research. The Hydrodynamic Department of TsAGI performed a number of special tests on enhancing the fire-prevention system units of the Be-200, an aircraft designed to be the most efficient fire-fighting aircraft ever built.

The practical applications of the Be-200’s fire-fighting properties have already been exhibited in real-life. In August 23, 2007 a representative of the Home Office of Portugal expressed thanks to the rescue team which fought the fire not far from Lisbon in Syntra City, a city of international historical importance. The Be-200 aircraft demonstrated its exceptional operational properties during the battle.
